We won't run any political ads, or endorse candidates

Welcome to The Richmonder, a new local news source with the mission to spotlight the best of our community while keeping a watchful eye on those in power.

We believe in being fully transparent about how we’re funded, with a particular emphasis on reader members, who support our work with a monthly contribution.

Today, I want to share some of the editorial policies we've put in place, particularly as we near this November’s election.

As a 501(c)(3), The Richmonder cannot endorse political candidates - and we don’t want to. We are also committing to not running opinion pieces between now and the election, to ensure there is no confusion about our intention to provide thorough, unbiased coverage of the candidates and issues.

We are actively soliciting sponsors for our email newsletter. However, we will not accept sponsorships from political candidates, or sponsorships advocating for a candidate.

The stakes are high this year as Richmonders elect a new mayor, council and school board. We aim to be a trusted source of information as you decide how to cast your vote. Along with the rest of the team, I look forward to earning your trust.
