RPS announces calendar changes after unexpected week off for water crisis

After an unexpected week’s closure due to snow and the failure of the city’s water treatment plant, Richmond Public Schools is making several changes to its calendar to ensure students get enough time in the classroom.

While originally this Wednesday, Jan. 15, was intended to be a half-day for students and a half-day for teacher planning, Superintendent Jason Kamras said students will now have a full day of school.

Kamras said the division will make “some adjustments at the school level” to make sure teachers have enough time for planning.

Additionally, students will have a full day of school on Tuesday, Feb. 18, which was previously intended to be a day off for teacher professional development.

Finally, the end of the first semester will be pushed to Friday, Jan. 24. The second semester will now start Monday, Jan. 27.

RPS students returned to school this morning for the first time since Dec. 20.
