No charges will be filed in Munford principal’s bike accident

Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney Colette McEachin said a review of the details surrounding Mary Munford Principal Greg Muzik's bicycle accident did not yield enough evidence to prosecute.
Muzik was riding his bicycle when he was struck on the afternoon of March 11. He was in critical condition at the time, and remains hospitalized according to the family.
McEachin said in a press release that the investigation "yielded no evidence that the 65-year-old driver of the Ford Explorer was speeding, driving recklessly, under the influence, using a cell phone, or otherwise failing to pay attention."
A map released by her office showed that evidence suggests that Muzik was turning left from Patterson Avenue onto Woodlawn Avenue at the time of the accident.
The press release said, in part: "Witnesses told police Mr. Muzik, 76, was riding his bicycle between the parking lane and the vehicle travel lane, outside of the designated bicycle lane, when it appeared he was attempting to execute a left turn onto Woodlawn Avenue. One witness described that 'the cyclist hit the car' on the passenger side. Investigators confirmed the bicycle and SUV made initial contact at the front right hood and fender.
"The inspection of the bicycle revealed no rear damage. All damage was confined to the left handlebar and bent front wheel. The Crash Team concluded the bicycle was not struck from behind. The bicycle instead shows damage consistent with turning left in front of the moving SUV."
Muzik has been a staple at the school for more than three decades, and has served in Richmond Public Schools for 52 years.
