Election season is officially underway in Virginia as the state’s early voting period begins on Friday.
Richmonders can now cast ballots in person at the city’s election office located at 2134 West Laburnum Ave.
City ballots will include local races for mayor, City Council and School Board, as well as the presidential race, Virginia’s U.S. Senate Race and the 4th Congressional District race. Voters will also be asked to weigh in a proposed constitutional amendment dealing with tax exemptions for military spouses.
The hours for in-person early voting are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Two satellite voting locations — City Hall and the Hickory Hill Community Center —will begin operations on Oct. 7.
The office will also be open on two Saturdays later this fall, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One day of Sunday voting will be offered at all three locations on Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Nov. 2 is the last day to cast an early ballot in person at all locations. Election Day is Nov. 5.
Those who prefer to vote by mail can request an absentee ballot from the registrar’s office and either mail it back or drop it off at any of the three voting locations. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is Oct. 25.
Eligible voters can register and cast a ballot early at the same time.
Voters are encouraged to register by Oct. 15, but anyone not registered after that date can still cast a ballot under the same-day registration process.
