Addison says he’s not dropping out of mayoral race
Richmond City Councilor Andreas Addison (1st District) said he’s not dropping out of the mayoral race despite “rumors” that he won’t make it to Election Day.
Addison’s campaign didn’t identify the source of the rumor Addison might drop out, but claimed other mayoral candidates are spreading it.
“While my opponents believe this tactic will help them win the race, it actually shows their desperation and style of leadership,” Addison said in a written statement. “Voters want a mayor they can trust. If this is how my opponents operate now, imagine what their administration will look like.”
A Scott’s Addition gym owner who is the only sitting officeholder in the mayoral race, Addison’s fundraising has lagged behind most of his competitors in the five-person contest.
Heading into September, Addison’s campaign reported having $12,349 left in its bank account after raising more than $125,000.
At the same point in the campaign, Dr. Danny Avula reported $657,126, software investor Harrison Roday had $376,617 and former City Council president Michelle Mosby had $133,451.
Only community organizer Maurice Neblett trailed Addison, with $730 in his account.
In his statement, Addison said “Richmonders deserve more than petty political games.”
“To my supporters who believe in my vision for the city and are backing the campaign, know that I am not going anywhere,” he said. “For those who want a progressive change, I’m your candidate. I’m here to finish the job and fight for everyone who calls Richmond home.”
